The redesign of the “Luxury Corner” and the Entrance Gateway at the A’ basement level of the Riverwest Shopping Center constitutes a targeted yet highly detailed intervention within a complex and heavily frequented commercial environment. The project focuses on the remodelling and architectural upgrading of key shared circulation areas, enhancing both spatial perception and visitor experience.
The intervention area includes two main public circulation zones: the primary axis connecting the internal atrium of the mall with the transitional commercial “HUB” space adjacent to parking and auxiliary areas, and the secondary corridor leading to the public restroom facilities. The redesign originates from the redefinition of the common space boundaries, following modifications to the adjacent retail units, allowing for a more coherent spatial flow.
The core of the architectural proposal lies in the complete refurbishment of the ceiling and lighting design. By increasing the free height in selected areas and introducing a system of elevated ceiling planes, the space gains a stronger sense of openness, particularly at the HUB entrance, which is emphasized as a focal point. Integrated perimeter concealed lighting and illuminated membrane islands with curved geometries create a layered lighting environment that enhances orientation and visual comfort.
Vertical surfaces are selectively upgraded with concealed lighting recesses and mirrored stainless-steel column coverings, contributing to a refined and contemporary aesthetic. Special care was taken to seamlessly integrate mechanical, lighting, fire safety, and wayfinding systems, ensuring that all visible elements strictly follow the architectural layout.
Complementing the interior redesign, the Entrance Gateway is redefined through a new sculptural shell, incorporating laser-cut perforated metal panels, diffuse backlighting, and new full-height automatic sliding glass doors. The result is a cohesive architectural statement that strengthens identity, improves functionality, and elevates the spatial quality of this critical threshold within the shopping center.
